How to get there
After defeating the Blood-Starved Beast.
From the Cathedral Ward, go straight ahead to the opening, turn right, defeat the first enemy and continue right. Were there used to be 3 crows, will be now a new enemy, a Snatcher. He is very powerful and hits hard. After he received some damage, he will become more aggressive and attack you with some very strong attacks as well as unblockable grabs. If you want to go to the secret area, Hypogean Gaol, you actually need to die at the hands of this enemy.
After you die you will wake up in a prison cell. To light the lantern here, go left after you exiting the cell. Go up the stairs to the left, kill the Wandering Nightmare and continue up where you will find two more Snatchers. Go up the stairs again and the lamp will be there.
After defeating Rom, The Vacuous spider
After the player has defeated Rom, The Vacuous spider, the lamp to Yahar'Gul will no longer work and the player will have to enter via a different route and be faced not only with tougher enemies, but there are Chime Maidens in the area as well. Those enemies are able to resurrect fallen enemies, similar to the Necromancers in Dark Souls.
